Seoul Hiking Guide – Five Must Hiking trail in Seoul.

Are you visiting Seoul and want to get the best out of the tour? Or You have been living in Seoul but haven’t hiked the best trails of Seoul yet, and looking for ideas and what trails to walk. I’m going to share with you in depths Seoul hiking guide in this post.

Let me introduce myself. I’m Alamin Hossain from Bangladesh. I’ve been living in Korea for over three years and most of my holiday and weekend are spent hiking the beautiful mountain of South Korea. I already stepped over 20 mountains trail including the two largest one Jirisan and Seoraksan. Also hiked the Seoul highest Baegundae peak for 9th times.

I’ve been hiking a lot and walked almost all of the mountain trail near Seoul. I hope to give you the updated information on hiking in Seoul.

Why hiking in Seoul?

Seoul is a well-developed city. What amazes me most of its high-tech subway system. You probably already visited all of the popular tourist attractions like Gyenobokggung and other palaces, Dongdaemun, Gangnam, Hongdae and all other attractions by subway. The subway is connected to the all famous mountain trail near Seoul. Use Kakao metro app for subway and Never map as alternative of Google maps in korea.

I guess You have visited the palaces and famous streets of Seoul, which are overcrowded with tourist and local. To see the real beauty of Seoul and wonder into nature. You have to hike the mountain trail.

I attached some photos of my hiking in the post which i believe will give a boost to hike the trails.

There are many trails to hike near Seoul, and I almost liked all of them. I’m going to share with you the popular and most scenic one and details guide with photos to conquer the trail.

Top five must hike Mountain trail around Seoul Korea.

I find these top five mountain trail of Seoul is more beautiful than others. If you search on google, you would see a recommendation on hiking some favorite trails in Seoul which are not that much scenic and very easy.

Let me introduce you five must hike mountain near Seoul.

No 1 : Bukhansan National Park (북한산국립공원).

Why hike Bukhansan(북한산)?

Bukhansan is located to the northern part of Seoul and easily accessible via bus and subway from Seoul central station. It would take only 30-40 minutes by metro and bus to the Bukhansan national park entrance.

There are many trails to hike in Bukhansan, and The most hike trails are Bagundae peak(836m), Insubong peak(810m) and Mangyeongdae (787m). The Insubong peak is for the rock climber, so if you are not into rock climbing, then the other trails are for you. I would say Baegundae peak is a must hike.

How to get Bukhansan National park?

The easy way to Bukhansan is to take Subway line number 3. Get off at Gupabal Station Exit 1, you will see a bus stop. Take bus 8772, 34 or 704 and get off Bukhansanseong Ipgu which is the main park entrance. Many local hikers also take the same bus from the Gupabal station so ask them or follow them to the park.

After getting off at the park station take a trail map from the information center and start hiking. I would suggest you take the Bagundae trail which is moderately difficult but the view you would see on top of Baegundae peak are stunning.

No 2. Hiking Suraksan Mountain

Why hiking Suraksan?

Suraksan is one of the best scenic hikes. I added photos of Suraksan for reference. If you don’t like a crowded trail, then go hike Surakasn. Fewer people but the view is impressive. Suraksan is beside the valley of Dobongsan, and it’s in the northeastern part of Seoul. Suraksan mountain park entrance also easily accessible by Subway.

How to get to Suraksan mountain?

There is two option to begin your hiking in Suraksan, Either getting off in Suraksan Station or Danggogae Station. Take Line 4 from Seoul station and get off at Danggogae. Hike through exit four which will lead to you the trail entrance.

No 3. Hiking Dobongsan Mountain (도봉산)

Why hiking Dobongsan(도봉산)?

Dobongsan is another mountain of Bukhansan national park. Dobongsan trail is easily accessible by Subway. The view at the top is refreshing and beautiful. You will see a much beautiful view of Seoul which you wouldn’t get in Bagundae peak.

How to get to Dobongsan(도봉산) mountain?

Take line number 1 and get off at the Dobongsan station and Exit 1. You will see many Korean hikers who are starting the hike. Follow them or take a trail map from the park information center. The top elevation of Dobongsan is 724m. The hike is strenuous. The first part of the trail is easy, but the mid and last part is quite tiring and exhausting. Pack 2-liter water, enough snacks, and launch to eat on the top with the outstanding scenery and fresh air.

No 4. Hiking Gwanaksan mountain

Why hiking Gwanaksan Mountain (관악산)?

Gwanaksan(관악산) is a small and beautiful mountain of Southern part of Seoul. Gwanaksan is not the tallest like Bukhansan or Dobongsan, yet the view is spectacular from the top. After hiking to the top peak, you will see the beautiful temple which I find stunning.

How to get to Gwanaksan(관악산)?

Go to Gwacheon station line number 4 ( Exit 2). Take the escalator up, and you will see the mountain above the trees. Walk straight find the sign of Library Junction from here Cross the street and walk right till you encounter a brown sign which tells Gwanaksan is 1km away. Continue hiking and follow the signs you will be on the trail. If you lost ask local about Gwanaksan trail, they are accommodating and polite.

No 5. Hiking Buramsan Mountain (불암산)

Why hiking Buramsan(불암산)?

Buramsan is a rocky mountain with the highest elevation of 508m. If you want to see the night view from the top of a hill, then Buramsan is your best choice. The scenery is beautiful on the top, and the peak is not much high. I think girls will enjoy more this trail then boys because of taking photos while hiking to the top. Hiking time of this trail is only 2-3 hours, and Buramsan trail is beginner friendly.

How to get to Buramsan Mountain (불암산)

Take line 4 from Seoul station and get off at Sanggye Station Exit 1. Walk let toward the road until the road curves right. Walk right, and you will see the trail entrance or

Go to Danggogae Station which is also online number 4, Exit 2. Walk 15 minutes top from the exit to reach the trail.
